Preparing for Houston

6 days left in Wisconsin

  • Sad? Yes.
  • Excited? Yes.
  • Nervous? Yes.
  • Prepared? I'MWORKIN'ONIT
But oh, how time flies.

[ I got the great news of TFA way back in November, but this past semester was still a challenge. I had wonderful classes with professors Valenza, Britland, Witmore, Shashko, Sapega, and Fink,
but, as you can see, it was quite the course-load.
With 17 credits, a part-time job, projects that I worked too hard
on (vimeo.com/leedix) and a job already locked down, somehow
I was still able to get the best grades of my college career. ]

After graduation, I knew that I had to finally get to the TFA prep work that I had put off from earlier.
I have to take my TEXeS certification exam on June 26th, so I have a 400 page book that I've been pounding through. This test is basically my GRE, and I have one shot to pass it.

If all goes according to plan, I'll pass the exam and get into an alternative certification program that qualifies me to teach EC-6... that's 7 grades.

It's a lot of material to review, but it's been fun. I've been reminiscing about Rays, wondering when you actually learn y=m(x) + b, and groovin' with graphemes. Most of the test will obviously be on how to teach it, not necessarily asking you what year Genghis Khan invaded China (I'm pretty sure it was 1215).
Also, props to anyone who remembers
what [the] Lusitania is without Googl'ing it.
(no, it's not a new Phoenix song)

Currently, I am finishing up Social Studies.

In addition to test preparation, I have an estimated 30 hours of prep-work for Institution including reading all of these books.

I'm doing the work, but I'm having fun too.

I've been able to really enjoy the time I have left in Wisconsin.
Events that were tight, list-style.
  • Took madre out to a movie
  • Watched an unnamed season finale with fellow drama champ
  • Milwaukee zoooo
  • LOST
  • John's Root Beer
  • Terrace (!)
  • Brewer game v. Houston
  • Chatty bike rides
  • Madison Music Foundry
  • Restaurant Magnus
  • R. Kelly's World's Greatest and other sing-alongs
  • The "Guess Who" game (from Inglourious Basterds)
  • Destroying Mike Wilkinson in a game involving ping pong balls, garbage cans, and wood planks
  • Finally inventing an amazing superhero duo
OK maybe I just broke my intention of short entries, but you probably didn't read this all anyway ;)
Hopefully I won't end every post with a smiley face.
