Our class is on a mission, to become College Rockets.
The M.I.S.S.I.O.N stresses classroom values of Mutual Respect, Independence, Strength of Mind, Steadfast, Integrity, Optimism, and Neatness.
These past two weeks have been intense. I got up early today around 8am so I thought I had no excuse to refrain from a blog post. I do have 2 lesson plans due tomorrow and errands to run, so I'm going to jam-pack this with information without much explanation (not how I teach).
I've been teaching 3rd grade enrichment at an elementary school here for the summer and it is awesome. The students are very invested in going to college and it's an atmosphere I will continue to push on my students at my school.
The way that elementary summer school works here with TFA is that you teach on a rotating subject area. I've taught ELA for the past two weeks and that's the last time I'm probably going to teach it, possibly ever.
Now this week is onto Science, and then the last week is Math.
The days are very long and strenuous, some people reach breaking points, but I keep on trucking.
I'm surrounded by intelligence.
The hard part is finding a compromise between amazing plans and a good nights rest. It's really hard to do both. During ELA this week, I was teaching Small Group and Whole Group work, and including our hour of intervention it was 2.5 hours of teaching a morning.
We turn in lesson plans on Tuesday/Thursday with 2 due on Tuesday and 3 due on Thursday. Last Thursday, I had rough draft lesson plans due for MTW of Whole Group and Small Group, meaning 6 lesson plans plus the final lesson plans for Thursday.
These are all the word documents I had to have/turn in on ONE DAY.
but all this hard work will pay off one day.
Once I get into the classroom, I feel great. Despite the nights of getting three hours of sleep,
(sleeping McDreams)
I call up so much energy to engage these students.

Houston has been great.
Despite the traffic
I've found some good food.
On campus
And off campus
I've found an apartment
(We still have to fill out the paper work)
And on Saturday, I toured my school.
It's awesome.
Great library
Mural donated to the school (They are the Space Rangers)
[maybe the classroom theme, College Rockets, can carry on to my actual school]
And this could potentially be my classroom.
I'm going to teach.... (drum roll)....
5th grade Math.
Mommy Dix will probably remember the 9th-grade-days when that was my dream job (post-Chef and pre-Band teacher).
So I'll need to channel some of my earlier enthusiasm, but I'm already really jacked.
I'll have 3 classes, 80 minutes each, with a total of 60-65 students.
The classes are grouped by gender-- an interesting technique that I'm excited about being a part of.
Alright, well I passed my deadline of 10am so that's all for now folks.
(One of our College Rocket's dream job)
And, don't worry, I'm having fun outside of the classroom too.
Stayin' loyal to my Miller roots.
